It’s been over four years since writer/director Gary Dresden asked me to help produce his first feature film, December. My co-producer and I arrived in St. Pete/Clearwater, Florida for pre-production (casting, planning the schedule, hiring crew, scouting locations, etc.) in late March 2008, and Gary was still working on the script up until we started shooting. (Check out the trailer here.)

Jeff MacKay was the star, Jeremy King played his son, and we shot over a four week period in and around Clearwater, St. Pete, Tampa and Plant City (baseball stadium scenes). Check out photos of the shoot here. The film wrapped in late May 2008, and I started cutting by June/July. Derek Miner came in and did another cut, which was the one we released in April 2010 at the Palm Beach International Film Festival.

And now, it’s time for the DVD to debut. Derek has been working hard on the DVD and features, and I just sent it off to the publisher today (July 11, 2011). It should be only a few more weeks, then the DVD drops! I’ll have a firm date soon. Make sure you’re friends with us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter.

When I look back on December, I’m reminded of great memories, terrific friends, a hard-working cast and crew, two film commissions (St. Petersburg/Clearwater and Tampa), cities willing to help us out, and, I gotta say, one of the most beautiful locations to shoot at, the west coast of Florida. I live in Southeast Florida, and the beaches over there are beautiful!

On April 25th, at the Palm Beach Film Festival, “December” will be shown at 9:30 PM at the Cobb Theatres Downtown under the auspices of Voices for Local Film. Buy your ticket at the box office for Voices of Local Film. Preceding December, starting at 7:15 PM will be multiple film shorts sponsored by Voices of local fil…m and as an added bonus will be included in your ticket price.
