Jen Halpert (Janet Carter)

What have you been working on since you shot “December”?

Just days after we wrapped “December,” I stepped into a completely different role. I played a door girl at a nightclub, in the comedy “Stillettos: This ain’t Vegas.”  Since then, I’ve worked on a few short films,  a music video and commercial print jobs. In my free time I take a scene-study class that I thoroughly enjoy, I do freelance-graphic design work and love to paint abstract artwork!

How did you feel about your role in December?

There were certain characteristics of my role in December that I could not relate to. Janet does some things in the film that I would never do … Being Janet was an exhilarating experience!

Which people did you most relate to on the set?

What I’ve always loved most about the film industry is the vast amount of creativity and hard work put forth from all involved to create one final piece …  To answer the question, I related to all of the people on set. Our entire cast and crew of “December” was a pleasure to work with and I hope to work with you again!

How do you feel about the film and the message that it sends?

The message that “December” sends is very endearing. I can totally relate to it so many aspects … To follow your dreams and that family matters most is what the film meant to me. . Every human being, at one time or another, must make life-changing decisions. How we make these decisions describes so much about one’s character. “December” sends important messages that I live by.

Did you find the director gave you enough rope to put your own signature on the character that you played?

Yes. Gary and I would collaborate a lot at the table reads … Gary and I share religious backgrounds and similar family values. With that, I found it easier for him to describe Janet’s actions and demeanor throughout film.

What did you walk away with from the experience?

I walked away with a new “SET” of friends and memories that will last a lifetime!

What did you feel about working with Jeff Mackay?

Working with Jeff Mackey was truly an amazing experience and an honor … His phenomenal sense of humor and acting expertise made each encounter with him a special one. He will be missed.

Did you find it difficult at your age to play a 45 year-old mother?

Playing the age was a challenge, but I found myself more concerned with whether I would appear to be the age! Thanks to Toni Jo, Lauri and Wendy I believe the mission was accomplished!

Who in the crew impressed you the most? You can name a few people.

Among the entire amazing crew, the 1st AD, Theresa and the DP, Boris impressed me the most! They are both extremely talented and hard-working!
